16th April 2013
Within the framework of the Centre’s InHouse&Guests-Workshop PD Dr. Aram Ziai is going to give a lecture on “Post-Development as a Postcolonial Critique of Development?“. Afterwards he is going to discuss with students of the master programmes “International Relations and Development Policies” and “Development and Governance”, PhD-Students as well as fellows and staff of the Centre about the alternatives to the established development discourse.
As a representative of the post-development approaches Ziai criticises the dominant development policies in the fact that they not only depoliticise and manifest global dependencies with their “socio-technocratic interventions”, but also shape the development discourse unilaterally and euro-centrically.
After his PhD in Political Science at the University Hamburg and his habilitation about „Globale Strukturpolitik? Rot-grüne Entwicklungspolitik und das Dispositiv der Entwicklung im Zeitalter von neoliberaler Globalisierung und neuer Weltordnung“ („Global structural policy? Red-Green Development Policy and the Dispositive of Development in the Age of Neo-Liberal Globalisation and a New World Order“) at the University of Kassel PD Dr. Aram Ziai taught at the Universities of Magdeburg, Kassel, Vienna and Hamburg. Currently he is Senior Researcher at the Department of Political and Cultural Change of the Center for Development Research (ZEF) in Bonn.
