Käte Hamburger Dialogue

Migration and Urban Utopias: Past Visions and the Future City

Date: March 26, 2019, 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Venue: Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen, Schifferstraße 30, 47059 Duisburg

How did migrant communities change the image of the modern city in the past, how do they shape it today and how can we achieve a common "Urban Utopia"?

The Käte Hamburger Kolleg / Centre for Global Cooperation Research and the Department Rheinland of the Landesarchiv NRW looked back on the role of migrants in the economic and urban reconstruction of the Ruhr area after the Second World War and examined the influence of migrant communities on the design of the Ruhr area. This joint dialogue combined the experiences of the past and present with this year's theme of Duisburger Akzente, "Utopias", and aimed to explore ideas for socially inclusive and empowerment-oriented urban development.
