Progress and Regression

Essen – May 22, 2019

In her talk Rahel Jaeggi defended the conceptual pair of progress and regression as a vital socio-philosophical tool for the diagnosis and the criticism of our times. It is not the final result that she considers progressive or regressive, but first and foremost the shape of the social transformation processes themselves. By asking about the dynamics of social change as well as blocked experiences that promote regressive tendencies, she developed a concept of progress that is materialistic and pluralistic, i.e. thoroughly emancipatory and contemporary.
