Concept Note
The workshop addressed the role of interventionism in world ordering, aiming to takestock of recent trends and discursive shifts occurring in intervention practices around the globe, and to make sense of what implications these changes might have for the future world order. We understand practices of world ordering – such as interventions – to be shaped by, and to reflect, different conceptions and visions of world order, in which interventionism (or alternatively non-interventionism) play an important role. Discussing the current changes – as well as the continuities – in interventionist practices, we aim to critically assess the role of interventionism in world ordering and reflect on the implications these changes might have for the future world order as well as for the political and social orders of the affected societies and regions. The workshop brought together researchers working on interventions from different perspectives and positionalities, and invited them to reflect on how – for example – political economy, critical, feminist or post-/decolonial perspectives can instruct our thinking on interventionism and world ordering.
