Research Project at the Centre
Global Cooperation and Polycentric Governance: Involvement of Public-, Private-, and Civil Society Actors in the Global Compacts on Migration
The project aims to critically examine how public-, private-, and civil society actors help shape the agenda for global migration governance. The project will address the following three research questions: 1. How do public-, private-, and civil society actors envision global governance of migration, and how do they propose reaching this goal? This research question aims to identify visions for global governance among public-, private-, and civil society actors, and opposing views within these groups. 2. How do these actors conceptualize international migration – i.e. what aspects of migration do they highlight and how do these conceptualizations align with or deviate from the New York Declaration for refugees and migrants? This question aims to critically examine norm diffusion from the UN to civil society actors and private actors, and the agency of the latter two in shaping the global governance debate. 3. How do these actors engage with questions whether global governance of migration is desirable and attainable?
