Research Project at the Centre
Knowledge Production and Global Cooperation
The project seeks to identify what may be provisionally termed the ‘latent determinants’ of global cooperation and non-cooperation. My assumption is that such ‘latent determinants’ exert influence apart from formal and informal institutions of trans- and international interaction. Oftentimes, they are embedded in a culturally and/or morally informed affinity of states and societies which facilitates or hampers cooperation. The empirical vantage point is the inter-regional cooperation between Asia and the Middle East/MENA region. The approach is hermeneutic, based on epistemic initiatives of Southeast Asian origin, i.e. demands to de-center the global knowledge production by shifting the view and acknowledging theories that derive from within different world regions rather than ‘testing’ theories originating in the global North in regions of the South.
