Dr Farai Chipato joined the research group 'Global cooperation and diverse conceptions of world order' in September 2022 and will be a Postdoc Research Fellow at the Centre until August 2023.

Afropolitanism, Black thought and Global Crisis

As the Western dominated liberal order frays and American hegemony weakens, increasing attention has been paid to new sources of multilateral co-operation, cosmopolitan politics, and citizen agency. My research at the centre examines Afropolitanism and new creative forms of African identity, in order to understand their contributions to debates on Pan-Africanism and the contemporary crisis in global order. It will engage with work on African continental governance and African identity, using Africa as a lens to think about questions of global goverance, liberal hegemony and rising threats of authoritarianism and anti-democratic politics. In addition, my work addresses issues of climate change, by engaging with African and Black political theory approaches to the Anthropocene, as an issue of global governance.
