Dr Adriana Suárez Delucchi joined the research group 'Global cooperation and diverse conceptions of world order' in November 2021 and will be a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre until October 2022.

Decolonial critiques of environmental governance orders

The idea that all human beings have equally contributed to an epoch of unprecedented global transformation, also referred to as the Anthropocene, obscures differential responsibilities and silences non-dominant ways of being-in-place. Critically exploring through a decolonial lens global environmental governance is important to prevent the reproduction of modernising logics that privilege universal politics and efficiency over plurality. My research at the Centre is twofold. On the one hand, it involves examining how the Earth System Governance Project is organised and which (if any) knowledge systems are marginalised within its constitutive discourses and practices. In addition, I examine how the strengthening of global environmental governance and regulatory institutions may reinforce a colonial order subordinating relational approaches and alternative planetary futures.
