Käte Hamburger Kolleg / Centre on Global Cooperation Research and the Desertec Foundation hosted the international workshop "Cooperation for a Green Transformation" in Duisburg. The event addressed influential international participants from think tanks, politics, NGOs, economy and finance, as well as the renewable energy sector. The workshop aimed to explore needs, strategies and options for an intensified cooperation for low-carbon development in two key areas: energy and food production.
Advancing climate change, the destruction of biological diversity and the jeopardised natural life support systems are pushing our planet to its limits. Agreeing on the necessity and feasibilities of transformation towards sustainable societies, prominent speakers of the workshop raised different points of concern: role of renewable energies as a catalyst for regional cooperation; cooperation on food production; the needs for polycentric measure to enhance and accelerate the cooperation; and the condition leading societal transformation to sustainability.
