Research Project at the Centre

Uganda's Budget: On the Internationalization of Rule

In many countries, state budgets are not alone shaped by national governments decision but also by influences of external actors. In this project, Uganda's budget is used as case study in order to find out more about such processes of internationalized politics. Who decides what in this process? Is budget-making and deliberation still a national affair in Uganda? How do legislative and executive powers relate here and what forms of legitimacy do international actors invoke when they intervene in such delicate political arenas?

This study shall help to bring a number of themes and theses of the discipline of International Relations down to the ground - do we see global governance at work here or just a game of interests? While phenomonological in its basic orientation, the project shall help to see in how far institutionalist theory, the sociology of domination developed by Max Weber and Pierre Bourdieu and recent approaches of science and technology studies can help us to understand how international relations work in practice.
