Research Project at the Centre

Global Governance Revisited via Three Levels of Analysis

Can G20 negotiations offer insight into international organization legitimacy and inclusion? Regional arrangements have become prominent in global governance – how can regional organisations be strengthened? Can linkage theory offer insights about strategic challenges within a network of bilateral trade negotiation? Revisiting global governance is a primary theme operating throughout this three-level research programme.

Research Interests

  • Multilateral negotiations at the global and regional level
  • Negotiation micro-processes: negotiation strategy, turning points, temporal dimensions of linkage dynamics, pre-negotiation and negotiation closure, etc.
  • Effective management of regional organizations
  • Regional associations such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Singapore), the Pacific Alliance (Latin America), the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (Suva Fiji), the Union for the Mediterranean (Barcelona Spain), etc.
  • Global organisations such as the G20, the World Trade Organization, the General Agreement on Tarriffs and Trade, and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
  • Bilateral trade treaty negotiations between national governments
