Globality as a challenge for research
On the basis of the diverse scientific focuses of the ten Kollegs, among other things the question will be explored which new insights can be gained by orienting units of analysis and research designs “globally” or opening them up to “global” challenges.
Prof. Tobias Debiel and Prof. Claus Leggewie, two of the three directors of the Centre, and Alumni Fellow Prof. Jan Aart Scholte will respond to this question on Thursday 25th April at 15 h in their contribution “Globality as a space of political Cooperation”, drawing on their interdisciplinary research at Käte Hamburger Kolleg / Centre for Global Cooperation Research in Duisburg.
In this context Jan Aart Scholte, Professor for Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick, will examine global research in the area of ‚Global Democracy‘ in particular. Ever since 2008, Prof. Scholte, together with a group of ten researchers from ten different regions of the world, has been coordinating the international program „Building Global Democracy“ (BGD), which also was an essential part of his research project at the Centre in Duisburg.
In his current publication project “Building Global Democracy: Perspectives and Proposals from Around the World”, Scholte is collecting research results and case studies from the BGD program, which will be supported by a workshop in November 2013 at the Centre in Duisburg.
