Federal State's Order of Merit for Centre's Co-director Claus Leggewie

In her laudatory speech, Prime Minister Kraft expressed her gratitude for Leggewie, ‘setting his research focus especially here in NRW’. In his role as initiator and co-director of the Käte Hamburger Kolleg/Centre for Global Cooperation Research in Duisburg and as director of the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities in Essen, she appreciated Leggewie’s contributions as an enrichment for the science country NRW. ‘You are a figure head for NRW as a country of the arts and social sciences’, Kraft said.

The Order of Merit was donated in March 1986 on the occasion of the 40th birthday of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is awarded to citizens as a recognition of their extraordinary merit for the community.
