A Farewell with Congratulations and Gratitude: Markus Böckenförde joins CEU Legal Department in Budapest

perspective as an international lawyer to the field of global cooperation research’. His research interest has been at the intersection of law and development, rule of law promotion, and constitution building with a focus on Africa. Next to numerous pertinent publications, he edited three volumes of the Centre’s Global Dialogues Series and was instrumental in establishing cooperation and partnership with major organizations of development and cooperation research and policy.

The Käte team said goodbye with a moving farewell party following an exciting lecture in the context of the research colloquium. For his concluding colloquium, Böckenförde chose critical considerations on the topic of 'Self-Reflection as a Precondition for Sustainable Rule of Law Promotion Abroad'. He called for a more precise understanding of - own and foreign - legal and socio-cultural backgrounds with regard to the classification and prognosis of normative change.

As a gift Böckenförde received quite moved and with much amusement a football shirt from the city's always struggling but legendary MSV Duisburg.  Böckenförde, always in charge of future developments, lines up as no. 21 of the team, as is testified on the flip side of the shirt.

The Centre's leadership and team wish Markus Böckenförde the very best with his new challenge and will be glad to continue cooperation on topics and issues of common interest and concern.
